Primary Tuition

Meteor works successfully with Primary learners from Reception up to Year 6 to provide support with their development and build confidence at this crucial learning age. We also have many Key Stage 2 learners who are working towards SATs, Level 6 exams and preparing for entrance exams. Feedback we receive suggests that our success may in part be due to the learning taking place in the learner's own home, where they feel more comfortable and confident.

With recent changes to the Primary Curriculum, some learners and parents are concerned about keeping up with the different topics and questions which are now focused on. As education specialists, we can support these changes and make the transition easier. Some of the changes brought in from September 2014 include:

Key Stage 1

  • Five-year-olds are now expected to learn to count up to 100 (compared with 20 under the previous curriculum) and learn number bonds to 20 (previously up to 10).
  • Simple fractions (eg 1/4 and 1/2) are now taught from KS1.

Key Stage 2

  • By the end of primary school, children should be able to convert decimal fractions to simple fractions.
  • By the age of nine, children are now expected to know times tables up to 12x12 (previously 10x10 by the end of primary school).
  • Calculators will not be introduced until near the end of KS2, to encourage mental arithmetic.

We now also offer Primary English tuition and Secondary Science tuition.
